Mr. Bharat Amin, NACD.DC, was elected to The Aerospace Corporation’s Board of Trustees on March 9, 2023. With more than 30 years of experience in information technology (IT) function in the aerospace and defense sector and consumer goods industry, Amin retired in 2023 as executive vice president and chief information officer at Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (HII), the largest military shipbuilding company in the United States. He was responsible for HII’s IT and digital strategic direction with a focus on cybersecurity capabilities maturity, leading the IT division through a digital revolution that has redefined the current and future shipbuilding process through a series of dynamic digital transformation initiatives.

In addition to overseeing a multimillion-dollar IT budget and a large Cybersecurity and IT group, Amin managed the company’s governance and functional oversight; key digital technology partnerships; digital innovation; and risk assessment capabilities of all information systems throughout HII. Amin’s connection to the company began in 2014 when he joined Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, as vice president and chief information officer. In that role, he established the IT strategic direction for Newport News Shipbuilding and was responsible for day-to-day management of all information systems at the shipyard and HII headquarters. In addition to his other duties, Amin served as company liaison to the HII Board Cybersecurity Committee; executive director for the Technology Business Management Council; board director for the American Heart Association Eastern States; and he offered his professional services to a variety of government and industry partners.

Previously, Amin held a series of key leadership positions at BAE Systems Inc., where he was instrumental in helming various IT infrastructure and business transformation programs across the operating group globally. Prior to that, he also served in several leadership positions in industrial engineering and IT at global consumer goods manufacturer Electrolux Group North America.

Amin is a member and former chairman of the Global SAP Aerospace and Defense Industry Advisory Council, and a member of the Verizon Innovation Council, the AsianUpward Advisory Board, and the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers Executive Leadership Group. He also holds membership in several organizations offering executive peer-to-peer enrichment, programs, and essential networking opportunities, including the National Association of Corporate Directors; G100; CapitalCIO Advisory Board; Washington Executive Council; HMG Capital Region Advisory Board; and Society for Information Management Capital Region.

Amin received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Maharaja Sayajirao University, as well as a master’s degree in industrial engineering and an executive MBA in international business and finance from Rutgers University. Amin is NACD Directorship Certified®.
