There’s also talk of moving the commercial space office out of the FAA and into its own solo office within the Transportation Department or shifting it to the Commerce Department.
“If they want to make specific changes to the regulations, they would have to go through the rulemaking process to do that,” said Brian Weeden, systems director for the Center for Space Policy and Strategy at the Aerospace Corporation. “If they want to change authorities — as in move this to another agency — that is not actually within the powers of the administration; those authorities are set by Congress.”
