How We Use Space More Than You Realize

How important is space to your life on a daily basis? Probably much more than you realize.
Value of Space Video

How important is space to your life on a daily basis? Probably much more than you realize. While we can’t see them, thousands of satellites and other technologies floating around in space actually help us accomplish many big and small tasks each day. From checking the weather forecast to paying bills, watching television or enjoying farm-fresh vegetables, our daily lives depend on space-based services.

The reason we hardly notice the large role that space plays in our lives is that like the electricity that flows into our homes and the radio signals transmitted in the air around us, these space-based services remain largely invisible — even as space provides immeasurable value in our lives and economy.

So how much outer space do you use every day? Let’s take a look in the video above.

To learn more about how our everyday lives interact with space, you can read about more examples like these in the recently published The Value of Space, a paper authored by experts from Aerospace's Center for Space Policy and Strategy that takes an in-depth look at the way space impacts our personal lives, supports infrastructures critical to protecting lives and property, undergirds our economy, and is integral to our national security.
