If GPS were to experience even a brief outage, the impacts on transit, national security, the scientific community, and even the stock market would be very significant.
Sextant is a system that combines GPS with various other position, navigation, and timing (PNT) tools and monitors the status of each input to produce reliable and accurate PNT information.
This video depicts a live test of one component of Sextant -- a proprietary position sensor developed by Aerospace engineers known as OpNav. In this scenario, we can see a side-by-side test comparing GPS and Sextant/OpNav in downtown El Segundo, CA – down the street from the Aerospace campus.
With just a few days’ data collection and a short training step, this tool can be deployed anywhere in the world and offers accuracy up to 24 meters without GPS.
