Aerospace and its employees take great pride in volunteering time and resources to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, while also giving back to the communities they live and work in.
In spite of a challenging year, Aerospace employees are still finding ways to mentor and foster STEM talent. This year saw notable efforts by Aerospace employees to cultivate STEM students’ interest and involvement in the burgeoning field of robotics.
Aerospace employee Margie Eastman assisted a team of three 12-year-olds with designing, building and testing a robot used in the VEX Robotics World Championship, a collaboration of the Robotics Education and Competition (REC) Foundation and the Northrop Grumman Foundation. After competing in real time against more than 8,600 other students from 30 countries, the trio finished in fourth place in the online competition.
In recognition for her enduring commitment to STEM education, mentoring and outreach to the next generation of scientists and engineers, Aerospace employee Camille Keely was honored with the Commitment to Our People Award for Corporate Citizenship/Community Outreach. This honor was also an acknowledgment of Keely’s extensive efforts to help young people lay the foundations for future success, for which Keely has established of a nonprofit robotics organization to educate and engage students.
